Biography
Dimitri Coppe is a composer of electroacoustic music. He also practices improvisation and works with dance, film and radio. His projects are based on the spatialisation of sound, so he doesn’t make records and favours the concert, i.e. meeting the public, collective listening, live performance and site-specific installation. He develops his own concert set-up, which is more expressive and poetic than linear and faithful. His approach to sound plays on the ambiguity of sources, sounds, movements, intentions and even perception.
Alongside his own projects, he collaborates on unusual formats. Olbers’ paradoxe is a night-time concert from 10pm to 7am (Théâtre Grüttli, Geneva). 6x + 1 is a mixed improvisation collective: instruments + electronics + spatialisation (Schaffhauser Jazz festival, Switzerland). Siren solo is an outdoor performance using siren sounds (Biennale des arts indépendants, Geneva). More recently, Et tout se tut- Und alles schwieg, a composition based on R. M. Rilke’s Sonnets to Orpheus, originally intended for radio, was adapted for concert (Makaronic sound poetry festival, Geneva).
